The geographic layout of the City of Las Cruces and the MPO area allows the use of bicycles for many reasons on many riding surfaces. The area provides many dirt roads, irrigation ditches, open trails, arroyos, desert hills, and mesas for bicycle riding. This allows for the development of bicycle facilities to serve as recreational uses in some areas, transportation uses in other areas, or a combination of both.
The many parks, recreational facilities and areas, and open spaces that the City has to offer also provide great locations in which bicycle facilities can be placed. These areas, with the addition of bicycle facilities, could provide additional use of existing facilities and could be used to provide connection to other bicycle transportation facilities.
