In 1990, New Mexico State University (NMSU) developed its Master Plan to coordinate needed facilities for the university as it continues to experience annual increases in student enrollment and educational programs. The Master Plan included the addition of bike paths around and within the interior portions of the campus. As part of the new bicycle facilities, NMSU also outlined bicycle parking locations and bicycle restrictions on the University's sidewalks and malls. These activities are planned to contribute to developing a more pedestrian and bicycle-friendly campus and to decreasing the amount of automobile usage within the university's boundaries.
