Bicycling facilities within the City of Las Cruces and MPO are few and far between. This may be considered surprising to some due to the relatively good weather that the area experiences year round and the major educational, governmental, and tourist attractions the area has to offer. Table 1 lists all existing dedicated bicycle facilities with their respective termini, facility type and length. Figure 4 depicts all existing bicycle facilities and those3 facilities planned for construction within the next few years.
Most of the existing facilities are within the jurisdiction of the City of Las Cruces and were developed during the late 1970's after the creation of the "Guidelines for Bridle Paths and Bicycle Lanes" (see Planning Background - City of Las Cruces).
