1849 Came to the United States and the family home was established in Ohio.
  Educated in the public schools of Ohio.
1862 Enlisted for service as a private of Company I, 103rd Regiment of Ohio Volunteers.
May 14, 1864 Participated in the battle at Resaca, Georgia.
July 8, 1864 Led his company across the Chattahoochee.
June 12, 1865 Mustered out of service.
ca. 1865-1867 Attended Mennonite College, Wadsworth, Ohio.
Spring 1867 Came West.
Fall 1867 Left government employ at Ft. Lyon.
Fall 1867 Elizabethtown mines, New, Mexico.
1868 Denver, employed by Holladay to drive a stage line from Denver to Cheyenne.
  Expert in bridge building for Northern Pacific Railroad Company.
  Returned to Ohio.
2 years Officer at Ohio State penitentiary.
1882-Fall 1885 Captain of Indian police and chief of scouts, Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation.
1886 Head detective, Texas Pacific Railroad.
Aug. 1886 Gen. Bradley sent telegram asking to start a campaign against Geronimo.
Fall 1886 After Geronimo capture, left service at Ft. Stanton.
Fall 1886 Arrived in Las Cruces, raised bees for honey and gold mining in Sierra County.
June 1, 1897 Married Alice B. Montgomery.
Nov. 1892 Militia that was to protect the polls, led by Republicans W.H.H. Llewellyn and Capt. Branigan, retreats under threat of overwhelming forces led by Democratats Albert Bacon Fall and Oliver Lee.
Feb. 1896 Participated in the search for Albert Jennings and Henry Fountain.
1899-1900 Republican, elected to Doņa Ana assessor; Commissioner, Las Cruces Ditch Association (also secretary and treasurer); Appraiser on Board of the Doņa Ana Bend Colony Grant.
